A couple months later, Steve was struggling to speak
One morning Steve said “Alex, I think I only have a few days left.”
Alex said “At least you’re speaking at your normal level now.”
Steve said “Aww, you always find the end rod in the tunnel that is me.”
Alex said “Aww, I miss the way you talk.”
Steve said “Alex, I have something to tell you and it won’t be easy.”
“What is it?”
“I’ll be happy ending it all right now”
Alex hugged Steve and said “Just because you can’t move easily anymore and have difficulty talking, doesn’t mean anything! You can still live a good life!”
Steve said “Aww. I’ll try to live as full of a life as I possibly can.”
Alex said “Do you want to come to Zuri’s battle today?”
“It’s not really set up for people with my condition. I could try to attend”
Zuri then knocked on their door, entered and said “Alex, I’m really sorry.”
Alex said “For what?”
“I broke your favorite vase. The guilt will haunt me forever”
Alex said “Aww sweetie, I know you didn't mean to do it.”
Zuri hugged Alex and said “Steve? You think you can make it to my big game today?”
“What one is it?”
“Generation”
Steve gasped and said “You got invited to the most exclusive PvP event?! Even though I never did and now I’m too old.”
Alex said “Steve, I think I hear knocking at the door.”
Steve slowly walked downstairs and opened the door and it was Kathy.
Steve hugged Kathy and Kathy said “Steve, I’m not here for you. I’m here to congratulate Zuri on making it to the PvP game of the generation. The only sword you couldn’t swing.”
Steve said “Yeah, I was supposed to but that week was the week I was sick because of Bob!”
Kathy said “Maybe they would let you now?”
Steve laughed and said “I’m way too old for them now! Oldest age for that game is 40.”
Alex sighed and said “Steve, you got invited this year. In fact just yesterday. They said this was your last chance. I declined it given your current conditions”
Steve yelled “Why you circle!”
Alex said “I may be a circle but I’m not round!”
Then the council came by and said “Steven Sylvester Oliver Swapnil Stevenson Stonecutter-”
Steve burrowed his face in his hands and said “I know the only reason the PvP council calls anyone by their full name is because they’re going to do something that would change their life forever. I don’t know if this will be good or bad. I think it will be bad” and took his head out of his hands.
THe council said “Your rank is removed. You are no longer a legend. Zuri is. But, your legacy is over! Unless you can win the regular round in the PvP game Zuri’s competing in today.”
Steve cried and wailed “There is no way I’ll do it. If I lose it’s all over for me!”
Alex said “Steve, either way, I’ll be proud of you”
Steve said “Deal”
The council said “Also, we’re here to take all of you to the arena the battle is at.
All the kids came into the room and said “Ready”
Steve said “I’m ready”
The whole council bursted into laughter and said “You can’t attend! You just have to watch.”
Steve said “But, how will I compete?”
The council said “You can’t” through their laughter.
Steve started to cry and wailed “So my legacy is pretty much done for?!”
“Yeah”
Everyone left but Steve and one council member.
Steve said “What?! Aren’t you supposed to leave with the rest of the council?”
The rest of the council left the property.
The council member said “Steve, I could get in serious trouble for doing this. But, do you want me to take you to the game?”
“Yeah, I’ve just got to grab my things”
Steve frantically grabbed all his things and said “ready”
Steve headed to the council member’s car with the council member.
Halfway there, Steve said “So, why are you doing this? Don’t you know you could get kicked out of council?”
The council member said “Yeah. But, I’ve been your biggest fan since your first battle”
“Wait, really? Because last time I fell for this, I got thrown into hardcore mode!”
The council member laughed and said “Yeah.”
Steve then got there and when he came in, his legs were shaking.
He went over to his room and saw someone was there.
The person in there said “Steve? Sorry I was cleaning up your room. This battle, you’re too old for. You can however participate in the 70 and older category.”
Steve said “No! Regular!”
The person said “Fine!”
Then the battle began.
Everyone got announced and the announcer said “And making his triumphant return to battle the one, the only, Steven Stonecutter!”
Steve walked out slowly.
The announcer said “Steve is displaying symptoms of the unrespawnable! Let’s hope this doesn’t impact his skill.”
Steve then collapsed to the ground and said “Get Alex Zuri.”
Zuri ran to get Alex who rushed back down with Zuri over to Steve.
Alex cried and said “Come on Steve. Don’t die now! You have so many more battles to do!”
Steve weakly said “I’m afraid it’s over for me.”
Alex said “One last hug?” and hugged Steve tightly as she could.
The announcer yelled “Everyone not battling… get off the arena and Steven Stonecutter, get up now!”
Steve slowly got back up and started to battle.
When he was down to one point, Someone saw Steve gasping for breath and threw a healing potion at Steve and the potion hit Steve on the head killing him.
After the battle was over, Alex rushed up to Steve and felt him.
She cried loudly and wailed “Steve n Stonecutter! Come back! One last respawn so I can say my goodbyes!”
A council member said “He's dead? Welp… the news team will come by your house tomorrow for one last interview about Steve. Can you stay home from noon until three?”
Alex coldly glared at them as though she was staring into their blackened soul.
The person said “How about two days?”
Alex continued glaring at them and said “We can still do interviews with him!”
The medic came over and said “Alex was it?”
Alex nodded.
“Remember that time out in the middle when he was failing at the one thing he succeeded at?”
Alex then glared coldly at them and yelled “OF course I remember you circles!”
The council members said “We may need to restrain her”
Then four council members came over to her and restrained her arms and legs.
The kids then came out and said “Alex, we could hear that from the other side of the arena! From the top of the stands. We were talking to the one who won the battle and found out the person who killed him takes full responsibility for it and wants you to come over to his place one day.”
Alex said “I’m afraid I’ll never look at anyone who does PvP again because of this!”
Zuri came out of the respawn room and said :”Alex, I’m so sorry, I could have handed him one. Then he would still be alive.”
Alex said “Zuri, I’ll still love you but not as much.”
Zuri said “I’ll drop PvP if me doing it will remind you of him and make you cry. Nobody wants to see either of their parents cry.”
“I would like that. But, Steve would have liked it if you continued. I’m going with what Steve would’ve wanted”
Zuri said “Actually Alex, Steve wanted me to tell you that he wants me to stop my PvP forever”
“Really?”
“Here’s the video.” and handed Alex her phone. Alex watched the video and in it Steve said “I want Zuri to permanently drop all types of PvP, even the non combat ones. These will be the last words I ever say. Alex, I love you from the handle of my sword”
Alex said “Aww. Only he could make a PvP analogy out of anything he says”
Then Ari said to Alex, "I have this note from him he gave me to give you when he died.”
Alex opened the note and it said; Dear Alex, only you could find the chip of gold on my diamond sword. I trust you will raise the kids properly and not let any of them do PvP again. Treasure this note for the rest of your life. All I ask is when I die, I want you to turn me to dust and let the winds of the PvP capital take them. Alex said “I miss him already.”
The council members said “The news team will come by tomorrow. They will be interviewing you”
Alex nodded and said “Okay.”
The medic said “He had a very advanced case of the unrespawnable. If he died because of a not so advanced case of the unrespawnable… he would respawn in a week. But with how advanced the case he had was, maybe five years.”
The one who killed Steve went up to Alex and said “Excuse me Alex.”
Alex glared coldly at him and yelled “Get away from my family creep! You killed Steve!”
The one who killed Steve said “I knew Steve since we were five. I can take his place.”
Alex said “now, there’s a hole in my heart that no amount of battles will fill”
The person said “Name’s Ricky by the way”
Alex said “Fine! I’ll come by your house in a week!”
Alex said “I’m ready to go home!”
Alex went home
The next day, the PvP news team came by for their last interview about Steve.
They knocked on the door and Alex let them in still crying.
The news team said “Okay, nobody knew Steve outside the world of PvP. We would like to know that”
Alex said “He was a great man who kept all his promises and he was a gentle and caring father. He loved me even more than he loved PvP. If I say anything more about him, I’m gonna lose it.”
“What was your least favorite aspect of his personality?”
“How dare you ask me that! I loved every single little thing about him.”
“What will you do to honor him?”
“Fulfill his last wish he told me. Which was find the rare emerald coated diamond sword.”
The council then came by and said “We need a photo of him for our wall of the fallen”
Alex gave them a photo of Steve in his arena and said “Here you go.”
The news team said “We understand if it’s no but would you mind becoming a legend to continue his legacy?”
Alex yelled “No!”
