Chapter 5
Brittany had never imagined how beautiful, and yet how miserable, space could be.
She'd never been up there before, of course; however, she felt like she'd been missing out on SOMETHING. She stared quietly out at the endless void, where stars glimmered like glistening dewdrops on leaves. But whenever she thought of that, it reminded her of her life studying the vegetation on Koppai, and she felt her gut twist. *I miss home.*
"Hey, Brittany!" Charlie called to her from the pilot's seat, and she tensed. She didn't like her captain at all. He was a nice fellow at first, but he had a huge ego, and his crush on her was all too obvious. Also, she wasn't the kind of person who liked being bossed around.
*If only he knew the truth...*
"Brittany?"
Their engineer's cheerful voice snapped her out of her thoughts. She shook her head. "Uh, yeah?"
"Come on over here!" he said excitedly. "We're going to be using the cosmic-drive key! It's super cool!"
"Well, I guess I don't have much else to do..." She stood up and joined her crewmates, keeping a good distance from Captain Charlie.
Brittany and Alph watched as Charlie poked at some buttons. He then pulled a round item with two metal prongs out of his pocket and shoved it into a space on the side of the control panel, lightly pressing a small blue button at the top. "Hang on to something, you guys," he warned, tightly gripping a red lever as he pulled it towards him.
At once, the S.S. Drake began a massive acceleration. Both of the crew members flew backwards.
Brittany tumbled across the floor grunting. Alph hit the back wall with loud thud. Miraculously, Charlie somehow managed to stay in his seat.
She was hit by a dazzling glow. Shielding her eyes with her arm, Brittany looked up and gasped in awe.
Outside the window were thousands of bright, colorful lights. The Drake rushed through them like some sort of tunnel. It felt a bit like a subway station. Then, as soon as it had started, it was over. They were back in space.
And right in front of them was the planet which held the key to saving Koppai.
