So basically they fight another big monster except this one isn’t actually that big

It’s really just a flying version of the thing from that one sport

The small ball with the cone-shaped plastic webbing

You hit it with a racket

Idk

Just enjoy the chapter

Now Playing: Great Escape from Animal Jam (Fun fact: The song actually plays in the adventure Greely’s Inferno. Great Escape, as far as I’m aware, doesn’t use this music.)

Chapter 31

The Koppaite’s soles thumped against wood as they tracked their target’s life signals up the remains of a tree. They’d spent the morning working for more Winged Pikmin, and now, a small horde hovered behind them. Now, as the sun shone down from its highest point in the sky, they trekked upwards, with enough Pikmin to take on any threat.

Or so that’s what Alph said. And it was probably just wishful thinking.

Brittany seethed. Her legs were sore from walking uphill, she was probably getting a sunburn, and the Winged Pikmin kept kicking her backside, then backing away before she could catch them. And neither of her crewmates took any notice - the captain was too busy admiring the view, and Alph kept running ahead, pointing out some new detail, like an odd-colored leaf or peculiar hole. She wasn’t even sure how either of them could bear to walk any further.

“Wow, look!” Alph pointed at yet another crevice. “There’s one! Look at how perfectly round it is. What do you think made these holes? All we’ve ever seen here are above-ground creatures, save for those Cannon Larva back in Distant Tundra. Maybe something’s living in there? Or a whole group of-”

“I don’t know, and I don’t care,” she grumbled, pushing past him. “Come on. We’ve been walking for forever.”

“Hey, leave him alone,” Charlie called from behind them.

Brittany glared at them both before whipping around as a tiny foot shoved against her arm. Bee and its winged companions flew upwards, giggling. “Get back here!” she snapped. *I swear, if they kick me one more time…*

Alph stopped again, ears twitching. “Hey, do you guys hear that?”

She opened her mouth to make a snide remark, but stopped. She could hear it too - the gentle song of a harp.

“That’s a really pleasant sound,” he continued wistfully. “Maybe this place isn’t even that dangerous. Maybe this is just-”

“Okayyyyyyy, that’s where your train of thought takes the wrong turn. Ever since we got here, we’ve just been facing threat after threat. If this thing is as nice as you think, why would it even survive?”

Charlie stepped between them. “Let’s not argue, guys. Besides, I’ve got a different question: how did it GET the harp?”

All three went silent. Finally, he shrugged. “We’ll just find out when we get there. And hey, I think that’s the end of the path!”

Brittany sighed in relief and ran forward, her exhaustion forgotten with a new burst of hope. Hopefully, this Olimar would have their cosmic-drive key. She’d finally be able to go home, see her aunt again, go back to the good old days for-

A small yellow blur flashed by the Koppaites.

She jumped back and watched as more followed it. They were tiny, with shiny blue patterns on their golden feathers and a short-but-sharp beak. And there were tons of them. There were some just outside the stump, there were some flying in and out of a small hole, a small group just hovered high above them.

Something screeched angrily.

They watched as a larger one of the creatures descended. It had huge wings, a puffy tail, and a crested head. It turned and opened its curved beak, and as it did, they could see some sort of strings, which it plucked at, creating the same melodies they’d heard before. Around it, the smaller creatures began to circle around it.

*So this is the queen,* Brittany thought. *Great.*
