Chapter 33
Louie awoke.
He was in an unfamiliar place. *First that creepy stump, now wherever the heck this is. Great,* he thought, standing up.
A sweet scent tickled his nose. *Is that… food?*
Following the smell, he crept out of his room into the next area, which was filled with cans of juice. At the center of the room stood an enormous blender. The room was silent, save for his quiet steps, and the soft snores of the strange place’s occupants. Clearly, he was the only one awake. Hopefully things stayed that way.
Something beside him made a loud noise, and he froze, only to see another person lying on the floor with a pillow and a blanket, completely out cold. They had long, pink hair and… round ears? *A Koppaite. Hm. What do I know about…* He thought back to what his Nana had told him about other species. *According to her, they’re glamorous, fruit-loving nomads with high populations and higher hunger. According to me, they’re all just parasites. Looks like they’re siphoning from this planet as well…*
Stepping around the pink Koppaite, he paused to analyze a small contraption near the blender. *Looks made for serving juice… but they already have a faucet on that thing. What could this be for?*
Louie decided against thinking about it and walked upstairs, where he found two more Koppaites. One had a mohawk and their face shoved into the floor. *How does he even breathe?* The other was in the pilot’s seat; they had blue hair and were half resting on, half cuddling with their pillow.
*The pilot’s seat… Finally. I can leave. And I’ll be taking that juice they had, too. That’ll show them for kidnapping me.* He reached forward and pressed what was probably the startup button.
Immediately it started humming a startup tune. A very loud one. Terrified, he jabbed at the mute button, praying none of them heard. Thankfully, the short blue guy didn’t seem to notice, and Mohawk in the background just started snoring. It didn’t look like either one was faking sleep. He relaxed.
Then he heard footsteps.
The pink-haired Koppaite walked upstairs and yawned. “Alph, stop messing with the controls. It’s… too early.”
“Nnnngh,” was the only reply. She yawned again, took a sip from the cup of juice in her hand, and walked back down.
From behind the next door over, Louie sighed in relief.
He tapped on the screen to keep it from closing and began a landing in an area marked as the Forest of Hope, careful not to wake Shorty. *Looks like I won’t be staying here for too long.*
