Alph attempts to pilot a spaceship at 4 am without sleep (GONE WRONG) (CRASHES) (911 CALLED)

Chapter 14
Alph rested his hands on the Drake's steering... handle? Maybe? He took a deep breath. *You can do this, Alph. You can pilot a ship. You can avoid crashing. You can find Charlie. You can save him.*
"Alph, this is a REALLY stupid idea," Brittany commented, struggling to escape her sleeping bag. "I know that you're usually pretty impulsive, but please, just TRY to think straight. Do you even know how to fly!?"
"Yes, I do, and I'm going down there!" he snapped, flipping a switch. The ship rumbled as its engines powered up.
"Alright, I'm DONE playing nice guy! If you don't stop RIGHT NOW, I'm going to go over there and DRAG YOU AWAY MYSELF!"
Alph ignored her, starting towards the planet's surface.
"Am I the only one with any common sense here!?" Grumbling, she hooked her arms around his, carrying him a good distance away from the controls. Furious, he flailed, kicking at her knees. She yelped in pain, dropping him, and he scrambled back to the control panel. "Don't you dare!" she hissed.
He continued the descent. By now, they were in the planet's atmosphere. He was so close...
Brittany ran over and shoved him to the side, trying to figure out the controls. He reached around her arm and tried to grasp the controls. Eventually, a fight broke out, only for a sudden noise to distract the quarreling Koppaites.
BANG! The ship rocked violently. Alph stumbled and fell on his face. The Drake's auto-land ring played - they'd made it.
"WOOOOOO!" he exclaimed. "I told you I could do it, Brittany!"
Silence.
"... B-Brittany?"
