Chapter 3
Alph followed Charlie like a lost puppy as him and Brittany led the little engineer to the cafeteria. If he was being honest, Charlie liked him, but his enthusiasm could be... discomforting. Still, he was kind, and seemed to know what he had to do, so he wouldn't be swapped.
He led the two to their table. It was relatively secluded, with little conversation and no nearby radios. He liked it there, in a spot where the noise wouldn't bother him. Alph, however, seemed agitated by the quiet; he kept fidgeting and drumming his fingers against the table in a way that was starting to get on Charlie's nerves as well. And as if things couldn't get any worse...
"Hm. Looks like there's a newcomer in the Malfunction group."
Charlie recognized that voice. It was Don Bergman, his old treasure-hunting buddy. They'd been close before, but started to grow apart, and eventually went for different goals - Charlie for fame, Bergman for riches. They'd both joined the Cosmic Emissary looking to save the planet (or at least for the rewards, in Bergman's case) and were practically at each other's throats.
"At least we actually have a full team!" he spat. "You don't HAVE a third member yet."
Brittany stood up. "If you don't shut up, I SWEAR, I AM GOING TO TAKE YOUR DINNER TRAY AND SHOVE IT DOWN YOUR THROAT." She glared at Nelle, her cousin who'd been sent to Bergman's team. Charlie didn't even know HOW she got in, being a veterinarian.
"Oh, we have a third member," Bergman said, ignoring her threat. He smirked. "YORKE! GET OVER HERE!"
A somewhat small Koppaite with messy hair and tired gray eyes approached the group. Charlie couldn't help but notice how similar he looked to-
"Alph!" Yorke's eyes lit up.
"Yorke!" Alph sprang out of his seat and ran forward to hug the other engineer.
"Huh!?" their captains exclaimed simultaneously.
Yorke gave the shorter Koppaite a friendly noogie. "We're brothers!" he explained. "He's the second-youngest in the family."
Don Bergman shook his head. "Well, that doesn't matter! We're still going to get picked before you guys, and we're still going to-"
An alarm sounded nearby. Instantly the cafeteria went quiet - this was an announcement. There was a loud click, and a voice could be heard. "Good day, everyone. I'm calling to say that we've hit the jackpot - a SPERO has located a planet with high levels of sustenance. And the team whose SPERO found it is..."
Charlie sighed. It probably wasn't him.
"Team 404, run by Captain Charlie."

To explain Brittany's 'attitude' towards Charlie:
Brittany has ODD (oppositional defiant disorder). This is a disorder that generally makes her a LOT less agreeable, and pretty vindictive. Unlike with Alph and Charlie, I don't have this disorder, so I'm going to be doing more research for her to prevent mistakes. She's a good person in general, she just doesn't like being told what to do, or anyone that might do that.
