Hex said “Well, yes but no. To do it we would have needed to do it two hours ago. Now there is no way to restore it. Sorry.”
Val said “Actually, the model we used allows the memories to be restored up to a day after the memory being wiped. We have to get you back home within five hours.”
Alex asked “Which home? He has two!”
“The one that he usually is in.”
Alex started to cry and wailed “His other house is a day away.”
Steve said “Actually, I did set up a teleporter to quickly get to my village house if I ever needed it. I must warn you, it only activates once every 30 minutes”
Alex asked “Where is this teleporter?”
“I don’t remember. I never have needed to use it”
Oliver then interjected “Steve! I remember where it is! You know that room with a keep out sign in your house? That’s where it is!”
The group then rushed back to Steve's house and into the keep out room. Steve activated the teleporter and he got teleported home. Then Val, Hex and Alex came.
Alex said “Carol didn’t want to see this happen to you. So, she stayed behind.”
Steve said “Hmm that’s extremely out of character for her. But, whatever I trust you”
Carol then appeared.
Val asked “Guys are you all ready?”
Alex and Carol both said “Yeah”
Steve said “Yes. Where are Bob and Kathy?”
Then Bob, Kathy and Jade all appeared along with Oliver.
Everyone said “Ready for the try”
Hex dug through his bag and grabbed the memory restore machine. Hex gave it to Val who put it on Steve.
Val said “Steve, if this doesn’t work. You could be gone forever with no respawning or you could forget everything you ever knew.”
Steve nodded and said “So?! My life is complete! I won against the person who has won the most PvP battles.”
Carol then ran over to Steve and lightly kissed him on the cheek and said “Goodbye love. Even if you don’t remember me, I’ll forever remember you.”
Alex was just keeping her arms crossed in the corner.
Val asked “Alex, don’t you want to say goodbye to your boyfriend?”
Alex yelled “He isn’t my boyfriend anymore! He admitted to loving Carol more! I should have listened to Anna when she told me to dump him!” near tears
Anna then appeared and saw Alex near tears and asked “Alex? What’s going on?”
Alex responded “I dumped him forever. Now it can just be him and Carol forever.”
Carol said “Now Alex, I am fine if he loves you as well as me. I don’t mind.
He has always been somewhat lacking in being a boyfriend but now he loves you he is the perfect boyfriend.”
Alex came over to Steve and said “Steve, would you accept my sword as a forgiveness gift?”
Steve looked at Alex purely confused and asked “Why would I want a sword?”
Val then said “Everyone back away from Steve. He may become very agro towards everyone. In fact I want you to all leave the house so you will all be safe. Me and Hex are the only ones staying here. We need a medic and someone who knows how to work these on sight in case something goes terribly wrong.”
Everyone left except Alex who left as soon as she lovingly kissed Steve on the cheek.
As soon as Alex had left, Val activated the memory restore.
As soon as the process had been complete, Hex came over to Steve and felt his wrist. There was no pulse.
Val and Hex slowly came out to deliver the grim news to the rest of the group.
Once outside, they said “Guys, We’re so terribly sorry.”
Alex and Carol began to have tears pool in their eyes and asked “What happened?”
Hex responded “Steve is gone and will never come back.”
Alex asked “Is this some kind of joke?! Last time this happened his personality just changed”
Hex and Val looked at each other and then back at Alex and said “We're sorry. This time it’s real”
Carol said “Wait will a respawner work?”
Hex glanced at Val who nodded and then looked back at Alex and said “Well…. Yes and no. For it to work it has to be done within…” he trailed off
Val said “An hour”
Bob said “Well…. In his old house he had a respawner but now it doesn’t”
Carol said “We could just try a potion of regeneration. Right?”
Hex came over to Carol and lovingly put his hand on Carol’s shoulder and said “Sorry, it wouldn’t work”
Alex and Carol bursted into tears.
Everyone came over to Carol and Alex and said “It’s okay. He will always be the best PvP player of all time. And he will never really die if we remember him.”
Alex and Carol wailed “Can we please go inside to see him one last time before he gets buried in his arena?”
Val and Hex looked at each other and said “If you want. I wouldn’t recommend it though.”
Alex yelled “Steve would’ve wanted this!”
Carol cried even harder.
Hex said “Anyone who wants to see him before we take him to his arena to get buried come in now.”
Everyone else from the arena then arrived.
Then everyone entered the house.
Alex and Carol saw Steve was sitting at his desk writing.
Alex and Carol glared at Hex and Val and yelled “You said he was gone!”
Everyone said “He is. Just look at the bed.”
Alex and Carol glanced at the bed and saw Steve was just laying there; cold, lifeless.
Everyone came over to Steve and said “I know you can’t hear us anymore. But, you actually weren’t useless in Minecraft Dungeons. Bye forever.”
Ten minutes later Steve slowly started to open his eyes. Everyone had left but Carol and Alex.
Alex and Carol then started to cry tears of joy.
Carol and Alex said “We thought you were you know …..”
Steve said “Yeah. I did too. I thought if someone dies two times in a week they would never respawn”
Everyone entered to the sounds of Steve’s voice.
Steve yelled “Get out all of you! The only ones I want in here now are Carol and Alex!”
Everyone left.
Steve said “Guys, I’m sorry I haven’t found anyone that I can rely on like you guys. I want to tell both of you that I met you on the same day.”
Alex looked at Steve confused and said “No you didn’t! You have always been in normal difficulty right?”
Steve said “Actually … I only moved here when I was eight. Before then it was all peaceful mode. In fact, I should visit my old friends from peaceful mode to see how they are doing without me.”
Carol said “Steve, I’m sorry. I was friends with all your friends from peaceful mode and they used to call me every day … until the call just suddenly stopped. They haven’t called me in over a year now! A week before they stopped they said something like if Steve doesn’t visit us withing a week we will just give up and go to hardcore.”
“Did you get any calls from a hospital in hardcore?”
Carol nodded and said “I’m sorry Steve they are all gone. The hospital tried to respawn them but when they tried they just turned to dust. I should have told you when you visited me a day after the warning call.”
Steve then pushed Carol into the wall and yelled “Why you little circle sphere cylinder! If you had told me they would still be alive! You know what?! It's OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!” and slapped Carol as hard as he could.
Carol said “Stevie-”
Steve cut her off and yelled “Don’t you Stevie me! You caused all my friends to die by not telling me!”
Carol said “Shmoopie-”
Steve got a little angrier.
He yelled “If I don’t want to be called Stevie, what makes you think shmoopie is okay?! The only name I am okay with being called by you is Steve! No Stevie, no sugar pie and no more calling me your special little! Got it?!”
Alex took Steve to the side and said “Steve! I know you are very annoyed. But, I think you should say sorry to Carol.”
Steve said “I don’t forgive her yet! Maybe in a year!”
Carol then came over to Steve and put her hand on Steve’s shoulder and said “Steve, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I was just so busy on that day preparing for the special event the next day!”
Steve said “I will never ever forgive you! … EVER! Also get your hands off of me! I was going to finally give you those PvP lessons you have wanted for the last five years for your birthday, but now FORGET IT! I’ll just get you something worthless!”
Alex said “Steve, I know she says all your friends have died. But, maybe just maybe they are in your difficulties with player's book.”
Kathy nodded and handed over a book.
Steve paged through it and in the hardcore mode chapter none of his friends were there. He then looked at the peaceful mode chapter to see only a handful of his friends were still alive.
